Realistic Changelings - with Headcanon

Have I posted this here? I don't think I have. Headcanon realistic Changelings!

Evolved from water creatures similar to octopi, so they can change their body's texture and color at will. If threatened, they will spit a greenish goop from their mouths that can immobilize and burn off fur if exposed to it for too long. They have split hooves with webs between the toes so they swim better than usual ponies, and their wings - usually fragile in flight - help them to power through water. The three gray lines on their sides are the edges of gills; on the queen of the hive, the gills grow a shiny green frill to show the rank. Queens also grow longer manes and tails, which help them disguise themselves underwater when they hunt.

Changelings, while their preferred source of food is gained through an extreme empathy evolution, they are carnivores and will hunt fish and small creatures if no source of love is nearby. They are very strong swimmers, and their gills allow them to stay underwater for indefinite amounts of time. 

Changeling hives are usually built above swamps or lakes, trapping the body of water in the bottom of the hive. If there is a source of fresh water running into the basin, a narrow tunnel blocked off with grates is built to prevent pony access. Many young Changelings are taught to swim and hunt in the basins before they learn how to fly and change shape, and intruders can be tricked into believing a hive is abandoned if the residents cluster together under the water.

When in a hive with a live Queen, the acidic gel that they spit becomes thicker and dries faster, allowing a hive to be built and repaired. If the queen is removed, or the drones are moved to a place that is not saturated with the Queen's pheromones, their gel returns to its' acidic state and can be used to fight off other Changelings or intruders. Unlike some colonies of animals, all female Changelings are fertile and command more power in the hive than the males. Many males spend their days looking after the eggs and newborn grubs, or are out scouting for food or positive emotion.

Changelings that live in a love-saturated area can store the energy in glands along their cheekbones; Changelings often rub their cheeks on the walls and furniture of places they are comfortable in to capture the positive energy and store it in case it is needed later. Changelings can also share these stores with other Changelings by pressing their cheeks together. Early research of the species had led researchers to believe it was a sign of affection among them before one was captured in a small town and sent to Canterlot for inspection.
